The main manufacturing activities are housed in a large, beautifully restored 200 year old Cape Dutch cellar on the De Breede Estate, one of three National Monuments on the estate.
Keeping abreast of international trends, many of the ingredients are organically grown which the company believes is the way to go. "We believe in foods grown naturally - it definitely improves health and flavour"..... says Tim Alcock of Gourmet Africa Foods. Tim, previously chef in his own restaurant, is passionate about food and all aspects of Africa and her spectacular pantry.
Tim’s wife Debbie, grew up in a remote regions of Tanzania and Botswana - where her family was involved with safaris and wildlife. "We were exposed to raw Africa from a very early age - and it’s become a obsession - I have a deep respect and passion for this vibrant continent." she says. The family ventures into various parts of Africa on their annual pilgrimage - discovering new African tastes and flavours and visiting old. This can be reflected in Gourmet Africa Foods range of unique products.
Many of the ingredients are grown in black empowerment collective farming projects - which goes a long way in helping to support the previously disadvantaged peoples of Southern Africa - a social responsibility project the company is proud to be part of.
The produce is carefully hand picked and processed ensuring that the highest quality of fruit and taste is maintained. Only limited batches of fruit are processed at a time to ensure optimum quality and control, yet ensuring the highest commitment to flavour.
